Advancement in Research Initiative

Project Description

The major goal fo the Advancement in Research Initiative (ARI) is to work, in close collaboration with the different institutional research units within and outside of the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus, to develop the infrastructure to support high quality research, mentor junior investigators and graduate students, and promote multidisciplinart research collaborations. To achieve this goal we have identified the following specific aims:

  1. Establish a mentorship program that enhances scientific productivity and award success by coordinating internal and external support for:

    • Identifying and recruiting senior mentors
    • Developing a program to promote and monitor mentoring activities
    • Disseminating information on diversified funding opportunities
    • Providing pre-review and editing of scientific publications and proposals

  2. Sponsor an Internet-based Multidisciplinary collaborative Research Seminar Series, focusing on targeted research areas such as cancer, proteomics, and infectious diseases.

  3. Up-date the Bioethical and Survival Skills in Research course by including in it the participation of graduate students in the Multidisciplinary Collaborative Research Seminar Series, and adding new topic areas.

  4. Launch and Intellectual Property and Commercialization Seminar Series with the objective of educatin faculty and studens on the protection, marketina and licensing of intellectual property.

We foresee that the ARI will continue to excel as a fical point for integrating research resoruces on campus and will play a key role in mentoring young investigators, developing multidisciplinary collaborations and alliances, protecting and developing intellectual property, as well as assuring maximal utilization of available resources.
