Dr. Richard A. Spritz Visits the Medical Sciences Campus
Dr. Richard A. Spritz, Director of the Human Medical Genetics Program and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, visited the Medical Campus in May. During his visit, Dr. Spritz gave a seminar on the Genetics and Biology of the Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome. He also met with Dr. Carmen L. Cadilla, Dr. Idith Ortiz, and Dr. Pedro J. Santiago Borrero to discuss new and ongoing collaborative efforts. Dr. Spritz will collaborate with these investigators in studies to elucidate the involvement of HPS 1 in causing the HPS-like condition observed in duplication-negative Puerto Rican patients.
This is the second visit of Dr. Spritz to our campus. Last year he gave a seminar on the Genetics of Ectodermal Dysplasias, and he made arrangements for a three-month visit to his laboratory by Dr. Cadilla and one of her graduate students. During their visit, Dr. Cadilla and Ms. Ana E. Maldonado trained on detailed molecular genetic analysis of DNA samples by exon screening/SSCP and DNA sequencing.
Dr. Spritz has become an effective consultant and collaborator to researchers of the RCMI Human Molecular Genetics activity. The RCMI Program thanks Dr. Richard A. Spritz for his interest and valuable support to faculty and graduate students of the Medical Sciences Campus.
