The University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus RCMI Program and the Department of Biochemistry of the School of Medicine sponsored a workshop on "Protein Crystallography and Computer Modeling of Protein Structures" from March 30 through April 1, 1998. Research seminars, individualized training sessions on various Silicon Graphics molecular modeling software, and a practical exercise on protein crystallization were offered by Dr. Ann Eakin, Assistant Professor of Medicinal Chemistry, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Dr. Pamela J. Focia, Post-doctoral Fellow in Dr. Eakin's laboratory; Dr. Sidney P. Craig, Research Professor of Medicinal Chemistry, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Dr. Doug Freymann, Assistant Professor of Molecular Pharmacology and Biological Chemistry, Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Enthusiastic participation of faculty and graduate students from all basic departments of the School of Medicine as well as the support of the RCMI Program Office and the RCMI Research Informatics Unit contributed to the success of this activity.
The workshop was organized by Dr. José Rodríguez-Medina, Coordinator of the RCMI Molecular Biology Core Facility and Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry, School of Medicine, Medical Sciences Campus.
