AMS Construction Managers in Conjunction with Gilbane Building Company, Gets Prestigious Recognition by OSHA Safety

AMS Construction Managers with Headquarters located in Caguas Puerto Rico and Gilbane Building Company with Regional Office in San Juan Puerto Rico and Headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island, recently received the prestigious Guanin Award presented by the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Administration (PR-OSHA) and which objective is to emphasize the success of the Safety and Health Program implemented and followed throughout the construction of the Molecular Sciences Building Project of the University of Puerto Rico.
The Award Ceremony was held on Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. and took place at the Construction Project Site of the new Molecular Sciences Building of the University of Puerto Rico located in Rio Piedras. Guests included Antonio García Padilla, President of the UPR, Hon. Miguel Romero, Secretary of Labor of Puerto Rico, Mrs. Gladys Cruz, Assistant Secretary of Puerto Rico OSHA, Eng. Edwin Kiess, Executive Director of AFI, Eng. Lorenzo Dragoni, Executive of AMS Construction Managers, Mr. Mark Crudup, Area Manager of Gilbane Building Company and Representatives of the University of Puerto Rico among others, joined Marcelo Oliver, Project Manager and Carmen Villar of Gilbane Building Company and all employees and Representatives from all the Construction Companies that work as Contractors on this Project at this special event.
The Guanín Award is the highest recognition to be awarded by OSHA occupational safety in Puerto Rico as it is part of the Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) which is honored to companies that choose to implement, enhance and excel safety practices at the work place that guarantee a safer and healthier working environment, with an active participation of all employees.
In addition of been the first non-pharmaceutical construction project to be honored with the Guanin Recognition, the new Molecular Sciences Building of the University of Puerto Rico, may also be considered as a ground-breaking building for several other reasons. First of all, it is the first building in Puerto Rico to be dedicated to molecular laboratories. In addition, the $ 55 million dollars and 149,000 SF modern structure with space for laboratories of high technology, will host the molecular studies on the Island for the next 25 years. Furthermore, the concrete structure, designed with a high tolerance for vibration and with a glass curtain wall system covering the outer surface, becomes an avant-garde building of global level, complying with the highest standards of engineering and construction.
