Simultaneous videoconference participation was available at the School of Public Health, UPR Medical Sciences Campus.
5th National Symposium on Prostate Cancer at Clark Atlanta University
Dr. Emma Fernández and Dr, José G. Conde attended Clark Atlanta University’s Annual National Symposium on Prostate Cancer and the Spring RCMI Program Directors Meeting at the Thomas W. Cole, Jr. Research Center for Science and Technology on March 15-17, 2009, in Atlanta, Georgia.

The paper The Glutathione Biosynthetic Pathway of Plasmodium Is Essential for Mosquito Transmission was recenty published in PLoS Pathogens. Joel Vega-Rodríguez, doctoral student in the Department of Microbiology and Medical Zoology of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine is the lead author.

Co-authors include Adelfa Serrano, PhD, Professor of Microbiology and Medical Zoology, University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, and Ricardo González-Méndez, PhD, Professor of Radiological Sciences, University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine.

Recent Publication by RCMI Proteomics Core faculty
The paper titled "Characterization of the Placental Macrophage Secretome: Implications for Antiviral Activity" was recently published in the journal Placenta. Ms. Katia García, doctoral student in the Department of Microbiology and Medical Zoology, School of Medicine, is first author of this article, and Dr. Loyda Meléndez, Professor in the same department and Coordinator of the RCMI Clinical Proteomics Core Discovery Facility is the senior author.
11th RCMI International Symposium on Health Disparities
The 11th Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) International Symposium on Health Disparities took place on December 1-4, 2008 at the Sheraton Waikiki in Honolulu, Hawaii. Hundreds of participants attended the different activities.

Dr. Emma Fernández-Repollet, RCMI Program Director at the Medical Sciences Campus and University of Puerto Rico Vice President for Research and Technology , received the Greenwood Award on December 1, 2008, during the RCMI International Research Symposium in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Transmission of Endoscopic Procedures from the Medical Sciences Campus to Four Institutions Simultaneously
On September 18, 2008, staff from the RCMI Center for Information Architecture in Research (CIAR) transmitted broadcast-quality, live video of endoscopic procedures from the Experimental Surgery Laboratory of the School of Medicine to four institutions in the United States simultaneously.
