Puerto Rico Health Sciences Journal Goes Online
The Puerto Rico Health Sciences Journal (PRHSJ) went online on March 13, 2008. The journal’s portal will allow authors to submit articles in electronic form, and general users will be able to download articles in PDF format. The portal was developed by Ms. Brenda G. Nieves, Research Computing Systems coordinator at the RCMI Center for Information Architecture in Research, using the Open Journal Systems, an open source journal management and publishing software developed, supported, and freely distributed by the Public Knowledge Project under the GNU General Public License. Mr. Carlos Rivera Silva provides server management services for the portal.
During the presentation of the portal, Dr. Jorge L. Sánchez, editor of the journal, said that he expects this resource will serve to expand readership and to facilitate submissions by the international research community. He emphasized the importance of documenting research activities by publishing in peer-reviews journals.
The PRHSJ was founded in 1982, and it is listed in Medline and in the Citation Index. It is a quarterly publication. Initially, journal will provide electronic versions of its articles prospectively, but it will soon add articles from previous years. The portal can be accessed at http://prhsj.rcm.upr.edu.
