New Proteomics Facility Opens at the Medical Sciences Campus
The RCMI Proteomics Discovery Core Facility was inaugurated on August 2, 2007 at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus.
Transmission of Endoscopic Procedures from the Medical Sciences Campus to Four Institutions Simultaneously
On September 18, 2008, staff from the RCMI Center for Information Architecture in Research (CIAR) transmitted broadcast-quality, live video of endoscopic procedures from the Experimental Surgery Laboratory of the School of Medicine to four institutions in the United States simultaneously.
Flow Cytometry Annual Training Workshop
The Annual Flow Cytometry Training Workshop sponsored by the RCMI Program was offered on September 6-7, 2007. The workshop was held at the first floor amphitheater of the UPR, Medical Sciences Campus.
Dr. Loyda Melendez invited to First Annual World Summit of Antivirals
Dr. Loyda Melendez was invited for an oral presentation on "Novel mechanisms of HIV Dementia using Proteomics" at the session of "Future an accurate diagnostics available for major viral diseases" given at the 1st Annual World Summit of Antivirals in July 21, 2008 in Kunming, China.
Dr. Michael Brad Strader, a researcher from National Institutes of Health (NIH) visits the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus
Dr. Michael Brad Strader, a researcher from the Laboratory of Neurotoxicology , National Institute of Mental Health, National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Professor of Mass Spectrometry at the NIH Bio tract course on Proteomics was invited to present 2 seminars and a 2-day workshop on Mass Spectrometry at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus on June 19 and 20, 2008.
REDCap Seminar at the RCMI Clinical Research Center
Brenda G. Nieves presented an introductory seminar on the Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap)system. The talk was held on May, 15, 2008 at the RCMI Clinical Research Center, and was co-sponsored by the Center’s Biostatistical Core and the RCMI Collaborative Technologies Initiative.
RCMI External Advisory Committee Visit
The RCMI Program received the visit of four members of its External Advisory Committee on May 28-29, 2008. Dr. José R. Carlo, Chancellor of the Medical Sciences Campus, Dr. Emma Fernández-Repollet, RCMI Program Director and Dr. José G. Conde, Associate Director, provided an overview of the current status of the activities supported by the RCMI Program, as well as new research initiatives at the Medical Sciences Campus and the University of Puerto Rico System.
Joint Meeting of RCMI Program Directors Association and RCMI Translational Research Network and the Jackson Heart Study Cardiovascular Disease Workshop
Members of the RCMI Program Directors Association participated in a joint meeting with the RCMI Translational Research Network (RTRN), as well as in the Jackson Heart Study Cardiovascular Disease Workshop. The activities were organized by Jackson State University and were held on April 14-15, 2008 in Jackson, Mississippi.
Brenda Nieves Coauthor of REDCAP Presentation at AMIA
The REDCap Consortium Project: A Case Study in Collaborative Software Development for Clinical Research Informatics was accepted for presentation at the 2008 American Medical Informatics Association Spring Congress. Ms. Brenda Nieves, Research Computing Systems Coordinator at the RCMI Center for Information Architecture in Research, is one of the co-authors.
Transmission of Endoscopic Procedures Live to Medical Symposium in San Juan via Internet2
The RCMI Center for Information Architecture in Research collaborated with the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Experimental Surgery Laboratory at the School of Medicine of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) to transmit endoscopic procedures live from both institutions to the San Juan Intercontinental Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico. These activities were part of the symposium Endoscopic Imaging and Therapies for Gastrointestinal Neoplasias: Today and Tomorrow held on March 10th and 11th, 2008
Puerto Rico Health Sciences Journal Goes Online
The Puerto Rico Health Sciences Journal (PRHSJ) went online on March 13, 2008. The journal's portal will allow authors to submit articles in electronic form, and general users will be able to download articles in PDF format. The portal was developed by Ms. Brenda G. Nieves, Research Computing Systems coordinator at the RCMI Center for Information Architecture in Research.

On November 13, 2007, the RCMI Center for Research Information Architecture transmitted a live video stream of endoscopic views from the Experimental Surgery Laboratory of the University of Puerto RIco School of Medicine to the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Video was transmitted over IP via Internet2.
