RCMI External Advisory Committee Visit
The RCMI Program received the visit of four members of its External Advisory Committee on May 28-29, 2008. Dr. José R. Carlo, Chancellor of the Medical Sciences Campus, Dr. Emma Fernández-Repollet, RCMI Program Director and Dr. José G. Conde, Associate Director, provided an overview of the current status of the activities supported by the RCMI Program, as well as new research initiatives at the Medical Sciences Campus and the University of Puerto Rico System. As part of the evaluation process, the Committee visited the Activity Coordinators at their facilities and met with administrative officials of the Medical Sciences Campus, members of the RCMI Internal Advisory Committee, and various directors of research programs. The President of the University, Antonio García Padilla, greeted the group and shared with them the areas that will be under development during the next ten years for moving the University forward along the path toward increase excellence.
Committee members who participated in the visit included: Chairperson Susan Opava, PhD, Dean, Research and Graduate Programs, California Polytechnic State University; Catherine E. Costello, Ph.D., Director, Mass Spectrometry Resource and Cardiovascular Proteomics Center and Research Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Boston University School of Medicine; Theodore A. Hanss, Jr., Director, Enabling Technologies, Medical School, Michigan University, and Gualberto Ruaño, M.D., Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer, Genomas, Inc. and Director of Genetics Research, Hartford Hospital.
We thank the members of the External Advisory Committee for their support and valuable assistance. We look forward to their evaluation report which will serve as a guide for monitoring the progress of the RCMI Program.
