Dr. Daniel Colón’s article highlighted by the Nature Structure and Molecular Biology journal

The most recent publication of Puerto Rican investigator Daniel Colón, Damon Runyon Postdoctoral Fellow, at Stanford University was highlighted in the cover of the February, 2006 issue of the Nature Structure and Molecular Biology journal. The article entitled "Direct ribosomal binding by a cellular inhibitor of translation" can be accessed at http://www.nature.com/nsmb/index.html. The article was also reviewed in the "News and Views" section by TV Pestova and UT Hellen, who concluded that "Colón-Ramos et al have opened avenues for research that could lead to significant new insights into the process of decoding in eukaryotic translation".

An eleven-member Board of Trustees will direct the Trust. Five public sector officials are ex-officio board members including: the Secretary of Economic Development and Commerce, Jorge Silva Puras; the Executive Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Ileana Fas; the President of the Government Development Bank, Alfredo Salazar, and the President of the University of Puerto Rico, Antonio García Padilla. Six seats are reserved for private citizens. These seats will be occupied by Fabrizio Bonnani, Vice President of Global Manufacturing at Amgen; Mariano García Blanco, Molecular Biology Professor at Duke University; Paul Lizardi, Pathology, Professor at Yale University; Retired Army General Lester Martínez; attorney Gil Medina, a former economic secretary for the state of New Jersey; and Emma Fernández-Repollet, Vice President for Research and Technology and Pharmacology Professor at the University of Puerto Rico.

Dr. Fernández-Repollet and Dr. Lester Martínez will be leading the efforts for the establishment of the first technology transfer office in Puerto Rico.
