Flow Cytometry Annual Workshop 2004
As in previous years, the RCMI Program sponsored the Annual Flow Cytometry Workshop. The workshop was held at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus on August 25-26, 2004.
RCMI Program Directors Association Honors Dr. Judith L. Vaitukaitis at Tribute Ceremony
The RCMI Program Directors Association presented a plaque to Dr. Judith L. Vaitukaitis at a Tribute to honor her accomplishments as Director of the National Centers for Research Resources held on May 18, 2005 in Bethesda, MD.
An Exchange in Cyberspace
On April 11, 2005, students from St. Francis University in Pennsylvania met in cyberspace with students at the Medical Sciences Campus. Professors Margie Morales from St. Francis and Cynthia Cruz-Gómez from the Physical Therapy Program at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus led the discussions during this videoconference.
20th Anniversary RCMI Program Spring Symposium
The official celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the RCMI Program was initiated at the Annual RCMI Spring Symposium entitled Biomedical, Clinical and Behavioral Researchers Accelerating Discovery and Translation of Research to Patients.

RCMI Center for Information Architecture in Research Holds First Access Grid® Session
The Center for Information Architecture in Research (CIAR) at the Medical Sciences Campus held its first Access Grid® session on March 30, 2005. The meeting was a multipoint conference with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Jackson State University.

RCMI External Advisory Committee Visit
The RCMI Program received the visit of seven members of its External Advisory Committee on February 28th and March 1st, 2005. Dr. José R. Carlo, Chancellor of the Medical Sciences Campus, welcomed the members of the Committee. Dr. Emma Fernández-Repollet, RCMI Program Director, provided an overview of the current status of the research activities supported by the RCMI Program and a summary of the program evaluation submitted by NCRR for 2004

The RCMI AIDS and Emerging Infectious Diseases Program at the UPR-Medical Sciences Campus sponsored the visit of Dr. Mariano A. García-Blanco, Professor at Duke University on January 18, 2005. Dr. García-Blanco presented the seminar Physical and functional connections between RNA polymerase II and the pre-messenger RNA splicing machinery.

Morgan State University hosted the 9th RCMI International Research Symposium, which was held in Baltimore, Maryland, on December 8-11, 2004 at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel.

The ASM Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics Approaches to Infectious Diseases Research took place on October 6-9, 2004 in Portland, Oregon. This ASM conference highlighted new developments in genomics and bioinformatics technologies.

The workshop Empowering Communities with Environmental Health and Medical Information Resources, developed by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the Oak Ridge Institute for Sciences and Education (ORISE), was presented at the facilities of the Center for Informatics and Technology at the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences Campus, on November 5, 2004.

Seminar and Training Session on the Use of Biodiscovery Imagene and GeneSight Software
As a sequel to the RCMI Microarrays Analysis Workshop held last March 15-17, 2004 with Agilent Technologies Inc., the RCMI Molecular Genetics Core Facility at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus sponsored a two-day training session on October 26 and 27 on use of Biodiscovery Imagene and GeneSight software for DNA microarrays analysis.
