RCMI Program Directors Annual Spring Meeting

The Directors of the RCMI Program celebrated their Annual Spring Meeting on March 7-8, 2004. The meeting was initiated with a reception at the Bethesda Marriott, hosted by Howard University. All other activities were held at the Lister Hill Center Auditorium, NIH. Drs. Emma Fernandez-Repollet, Ph.D., President, RCMI Program Directors Organization and Shelia McClure, Ph.D., Health Scientist Administrator, NCRR served as moderators of the activity.

The meeting included presentations by Judith L. Vaitukaitis, M.D., Director, NCRR, NCRR Strategic Plan Update; Dr. Sidney A. McNairy, Ph.D., D.Sc., Director, DRI, Current Initiatives at the Division of Research Infrastructure; Ms. Carolyn S. Pomicter, Program Analyst, DRI, RCMI Annual Progress Report; Dr. Willie D. McCullough, Health Scientist Administrator, DRI, Research Facilities Improvement Program; Alice Chi, Office of Grants Management Staff, NCRR, Grants Policies and Procedures, and Mr. Theodore J. Roumel, Assistant Director, Office of Technology Transfer, Higher Education, Technology Transfer, and Economic Development.

During the afternoon session, Dr. Keith Norris, from Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, presented new developments of the RCMI Translational Research Network Initiative , and Jeff Spence, from Jackson State University/Celerity, gave a presentation about the development of information technology resources for the Network. This was followed by an up-date of the International Symposium on Health Disparities which is being organized under the leadership of Dr. Joan Robinson at Morgan State University. The last presentation focused on the development of an SOP's Manual for Core Laboratories by Dr. Jacqueline Stevens at Jackson State University.

The afternoon session concluded with parallel business meetings held by the Directors and Administrators of the RCMI Program.
