The Center for Information Architecture in Research, in collaboration with the School of Public Health and the Atlantea Project, sponsored a ten-hour workshop on the uses of Atlas.ti in qualitative research. The ATLAS.ti software is used for the qualitative analysis of large textual, graphical, audio and video datasets. It offers a set of tools for the systematic management, exploration and analysis of "soft" data to uncover hidden patterns.

Ricardo Contreras Neira, PhD (C) and Angela Gómez, PhD, both from the Department of Child and Family Studies at the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute, University of South Florida, Tampa, presented fundamental concepts and applications of the Atlas/ti software. The activity was coordinated by Marta Bustillo, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences of the School of Public Health. Twelve participants, including faculty and graduate students, participated in the workshop.

Congratulations to Mr. Contreras, Dr. Gómez and Dr. Bustillo for an excellent initiative to stimulate qualitative research in the health sciences.
