UPR Awarded a Center of Biomedical
Research Excellence (COBRE) by NCRR
The UPR was one of nineteen institutions which received a Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) award by the National Center for Research Resources at NIH. The center will be led by an established investigator who will direct a multidisciplinary effort to focus on a basic and clinical neuroscience research. Dr. Conchita Zuazaga (in photo), Associate Director of the Institute of Neurobiology, will serve as Acting Program Director. The research team includes promising investigators who are to develop their research programs in the area of neuroscience: Dr. Sandra Peña, UPR Rio Píedras Campus; Dr. Luis Fernando Santana, Institute of Neurobiology, and Dr. Jorge Miranda, UPR Medical Sciences Campus. The COBRE award will provide 7.0 million over five years.
