Society of Research Administrators (SRA) celebrates its Annual Meeting

The Puerto Rico Chapter of the Society of Research Administrators (SRA) held its fourth annual meeting on August 23-25, 2001 at the Normandie Hotel in San Juan Puerto Rico. This year the meeting focused on "A New Vision of the Higher Education in Puerto Rico". To address this important issue SRA organized a special panel presentation which included Honorable Margarita Ostolaza Bey, President of the Commission of Education, Science and Culture of the Puerto Rico Senate, Dr. Manuel Martínez-Maldonado, President of Ponce School of Medicine, Dr. Nilda Candelario, President Caribbean Central University, Dr. José Jaime Rivera, President Sacred Heart University, and Esq. Manuel J Fernós, President Interamerican University. Dr. Eddie González, Compliance Officer UPR Medical Sciences Campus, served as moderator.


SRA Conference Panel

Honorable Margarita Ostolaza Bey initiated the activity by summarizing the findings of the Preliminary Report on the Reform for Higher Education that the Commission that she presides has performed in response to Senate Resolution 44 (R del S 44). She emphasized on her message her commitment to make research a top priority of the Higher Education Reform and her vision of a reform that will provide the intellectual tools necessary for the twenty-first century workplace. After her presentation, the presidents of the universities represented in the panel provided comments and recommendations.

Other speakers in the program included: Esq. Hiram R Morales Lugo, Dr. Juan Medina, Esq. Luis Pabón Roca, Ms. Mirian Rivera Cano, Dr. Carmen Cadilla, Dr. Andrew Alvarez, Dr. Emma Fernández-Repollet and Mr. Norberto Pérez.
