Affymetrix Seminar

Affymetrix "Lunch+Learn" Microarray Applications for Cancer, Infectious Disease, and Immunology

Affymetrix and The Center for Molecular Genetics and Infectious Diseases Research of the UPR Medical Sciences Campus RCMI Program invite you to a 2 hour presentation on applications of microarray technology to Cancer and Infectious Diseases Research. The purpose of this activity is to inform the research community of the types of studies that are feasible using this technology. An Affymetrix GeneChip Instrument System (a fully integrated platform for conducting research using GeneChip brand probe arrays) will become available to the MSC research community in year 2 of the present UPR MSC RCMI grant.

In looking at the progression from a NORMAL GENOME to a CANCER GENOME, Affymetrix can help in evaluation of each of the following aspects:

  • Gene Amplification and Deletion
  • Gene Mutations
  • Epigenic Modification
  • Alternative Splicing
  • Chromosome Translocation

Infectious Disease applications:

  • Comparative Genomics
  • Host-pathogen Interactions
  • Pathogen Detection and Identification
  • Strain Typing and Characterization

Sponsored by the Center for Molecular Genetics and Infectious Diseases Research, UPR MSC RCMI Program.
