Seminar and Training Session on the Use of Biodiscovery Imagene and GeneSight Software

As a sequel to the RCMI Microarrays Analysis Workshop held last March 15-17, 2004 with Agilent Technologies Inc., the RCMI Molecular Genetics Core Facility at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus sponsored a two-day training session on October 26 and 27 on use of Biodiscovery Imagene and GeneSight software for DNA microarrays analysis. These programs are currently a part of the infrastructure for DNA microarrays analysis that is available to all of the research community at the Medical Sciences Campus. Activity Coordinator Jose R. Rodriguez Medina, PhD; RCMI Research Associate Diana Gomez, PhD, and Core Facility technician Lillian Villanueva received intensive hands-on training that will allow them to provide support to other faculty and students wishing to apply this technology in their research.

Under the co-sponsorship of the Center for Information Architecture in Research, a general seminar was also offered by Pankaj "PJ" Prakash, PhD, Applications Engineer at BioDiscovery Inc. Dr. Prakash has extensive experience in Bioinformatics analysis and supporting applications at BioDiscovery, Inc. The seminar was transmitted simultaneously via videoconference to the UPR Mayaguez Campus and to the UPR High Performance Computing Center. This transmission was possible thanks to the collaboration between the Center for Information Technology of the School of Medicine and the Center for Information Architecture in Research. Participants from various departments of the UPR School of Medicine, the Puerto Rico Cancer Center, and the UPR High Performance Computing Center attended the seminar locally.
