Puerto Rico's Bioscience Week

For the Eleventh consecutive year, the INDUNIV Research Consortium and the Puerto Rico Alliance for Bioscience joined with the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) to celebrate Puerto Rico's Bioscience Week with the purpose of fostering a competitive and innovative biotechnology industry on the island.

The UPR Medical Sciences Campus hosted for the first time the Opening Ceremony and the reading of the Proclamation of Puerto Rico's Bioscience Week. The activity was held on September 15, 2014 and attended by representatives from the academic, private and goverment sectors.

During the event, a manual titled Biotechnology and I was distributed to participants. The manual targets K-12 students. "This manual was developed because it is important that students identify biotechnology as an opportunity to develop their talents and pursue professional careers", said Iván Lugo, executive director of the INDUNIV Research Consortium.

Currently, the biotechnology industry is the sector of fastest-growth in the world and one of great importance and relevance to the economy of Puerto Rico.
